About Little Me Crafts

My name is Faith and I have lived in Port Angeles since 1993. I am married and have 2 grown daughters, 3 cats, and  I love to make things. I have been crafting for many years and pretty much enjoy doing most crafts - I sew with fabric to make nice things. I also like playing with paper, rubber stamping, book binding, and working with small wood pieces. I also crochet, do little knitting make herbal products, candles, beading, plus a few other things. I don't do just one craft - I like to mix it up.

Sewing

I do not sew clothing - I sew useful, practical items. All of my patterns are designed by me, I do not use commercial patterns. I love bags and when I figured  out how easy it is to design and sew my own, it was a great feeling. Here are some other things that I sew:

o      Purses
o      Water Bottle Holders
o      Aprons
o      Checkbook Covers
o      Tissue Box Covers
o      Toilet Paper Roll Covers
o      Key Fobs
o      Pillows

I can do special orders on most of my items - i.e., specific colors, fabrics, size. This is something that would need to be discussed in detail. Please let me know if you’re interested and we’ll talk.

Herbal Products

**I am not an herbalist - please do your research, the Internet has a wealth of information on herbs**

I have been crafting with herbs and essential oils for over 10 years. It started out as a need to find good things for my skin, as commercial products did not do so well. I took a class  at a local lavender farm and that  started my journey with healing herbs.
I liked everything I made and thought others might as well, so I decided to share. There are no additives or preservatives in any of my herbal products.

These are some of the herbal products I have made: Liquid Soap, Salves, Body Powder, Brown Sugar Scrubs, Herbal Infusions with oil and water, Air Fresheners, and most recently, Lotion Bars.

Most popular are my salves. I have learned about the healing properties of each herb and have combined them to make a great healing aid.

Other Stuff I Do

Fabric Dyeing - I dye with fabric paints and not expensive dyes to achieve excellent results.

Beading - I make necklaces from beads and have come up with some interesting designs.

Crochet and Knit - I love all the different types of yarns that are out there and I enjoy making things with them, I make scarves, hats, and small items.

I love working with paper too - I make my own greeting cards from scrapbook paper, and attach paper to wood pieces to make key fobs and other nice things. The above piece has handmade Japanese on the frame.

So, that's the story of my crafting life and the things that I craft. You can connect with me a couple of other ways: I have an online shop at Etsy, where I sell my handmade items, and last year, I started a blog where I share my gluten free recipes and handy tips. I am also on Pinterest. Check out my online sites - I’m sure there will be something of interest to you.

Thanks for reading and have a great day!!

Cutting My Own Hair

I've been needing a hair cut for a long time, a trim actually. The last cut I got was a medium length bob a while ago. My hair has changed within the last couple of years - it has thinned out more and the body and memory it used to have is gone. I do have about 3 permanent waves in my hair and if it's cut too short, they are very noticeable. My hair will not lie flat and the waves are very prominent - I don't like it. This last bob cut was nice, but it was short enough to notice the waves. I tried to grow it out and it took forever (longer hair is heavier and weighs down the waves) It's finally grown several inches, the ends are thin and needed a definite trim - the lack of funds have prevented me from doing that. So, being a do-it-yourself girl, I decided to get creative again.

Back in 2000 when my hair was shorter, several girls in the office I worked at were cutting their own hair, so I jumped on the bandwagon. I just grabbed my hair randomly, like I was holding on to a microphone, and cut the ends - it came out pretty good. Years ago I tried to look up "cutting own hair" online so I could try it again and hardly found anything. Yesterday I started thinking about it again and Goggled "how to cut own hair in long layers" which is what I wanted. I found tons of YouTube videos and ended up following this one.

Update: Video has been deleted. I found a picture tutorial of pretty much the same technique.

Here are the before and after shots.

I don't like the 'V' cut, so I just cut it straight across. I took off an inch at first, then after blow drying a little and seeing it, it took off another 1/2 inch. I then took the scissor and made small vertical cuts in the ends. The front didn't need anything, so I just did the ends. I think it came out pretty good. Not bad for a home job huh? What do you think?

Comments or questions are always welcomed. I would love to hear what you think of this post or any of my other posts. Thanks!

About Me

My name is Faith and I stand 4'7" in bare feet, that's why I'm Little Me. I am a stay at home crafter. I have been crafting for many years and pretty much enjoy doing most crafts. I sew with fabric and dye them to make nice things. I also like playing with paper, rubberstamps, and working with small wood pieces. I also do knitting and crocheting, herbal products, candles, beading, plus a few other things. As you can tell, I like to work with several different mediums - that way I don't get bored doing just one thing.

Cooking is another favorite of mine. I have gluten free (gf) for about three years now. I’ve been having fun finding recipes on the internet and trying them out. I love to take recipes and change them to make them my own. I like to bake too, and that has been a real challenge since being gf, but I’m slowly getting the hang of it. There are lots of wonderful gf sites that have great information and recipes.

I started blogging because I’ve been writing notes on my Facebook page that my family and friends have liked and they prompted me to start blogging. With all the different things I do, I probably won’t run out of things to write about for a while. I also look at it this way, I have nothing to lose but a few thoughts . . .  crafty thoughts that is.
